A fascinating project that enables refugee teenagers in London to work with professional photographer mentors in order to create their own digital photo stories – check out the link to Digital Stories. I especially like ‘Get my phone back or die tryin’ by Walia – www.photovoice.org

Kate on paragraph 3:

It isn’t a great photo but, in fact, this is pretty much what it looked like that night. It was raining incredibly hard and the planes came in through the clouds low and loud and the supermarket itself was supernaturally brightly lit and enormous.

Kate on paragraph 4:

It’s a great space, that Sainsbury’s. Petrol station in the top right-hand corner, some kind of power sub-station in the top left, the enormous supermarket itself in the lower right hand quadrant, parking all around. Green verges too. Space for a memorial near the power sub-station. Great potential.

Hmm! How do you add a photo on here? Sorry I can’t fathom it out at the moment. I have to say that I think this is quite a difficult format, but then again I am a bit of a techno troll. I’ll keep searching for the upload button for a while.

Hi Mary,

have you seen the updated How to participate page? This gives more details of how to add different types of media to the site. Basically though, to add images, you’ll need to upload them first to a storage site like Flickr, then copy and paste the code they provide you with into the comment box.

Thanks Chris for explaining that. Yes, it might help if I read the rules, eh? Cheers, Mary

I was trying to put a photograph that I took at the airport last week. I’m going to have another try….

This interactive map is great. If you scroll down directly below the Sainsbury’s, you come to a huge area of what I think must be allotments, an area where people can rent a small plot of land from the local authority in order to plant their own garden. Allotments are an extraordinary component in UK urban spaces, where land is hugely expensive and much sought after.

Maybe the main female character in Flight Paths, (Harriet? – check out the name debate in the ‘Put Your Stories Here’ comments), has an allotment. Or maybe she just wants an allotment, so she can join the tribe of urban gardeners sharing tips about how to make their carrots grow straight.

Hi Crescent, I’ve moved your image into the main body. Thanks again, it’s a fascinating visual! Could you say a little about how you feel it relates to Flight Paths, and how you created it?
